Where In The World is Squire?

The 2012 racing season has officially kicked off!

Pro Row at the Sumter Hare Scramble

Happy New Year everybody! The 2012 racing season has officially kicked off with the start of the AMA National Harescramble series as well as many other warm up races. Everyone is just as hyped up as ever, if not more for this years season and I am in that group! Let’s get down to how I spent the first month of 2012!

I started the first week of January off by going to play some good ol’ put put with Whitney’s family before we headed over to go riding with Chris Douglas and his girlfriend Heather Avery, and Whitney. We spent a couple days around the Okeechobee area riding and just having a good time. Whitney and I headed back to Whitney’s grandparent’s house on the fifth to load up and head to a FTR race on the sixth.

The FTR race was a lot of fun and I had a good ride besides for a horrible start. I started a minute and ten seconds behind my row and caught up from 16th to 5th. I am still getting used to the electric start and fuel injection on the KTM and I basically flooded out the bike to the point it wouldn’t start. Once I got going though the race went very well besides for being super dusty.

Sunday night after the FTR; Whitney, her cousin Garrett, and I had to drive back home for them to go back to school on Tuesday and so that I could get some stuff done at home and the Mid America Cross Country series banquet. Being home was pretty slow besides getting a new Bengal Kitty, which is awesome by the way, and for the banquet. It was an absolute blast and I was honored for being the overall bike rider. Around four hundred people showed up to celebrate the 2011 MAXC series at the banquet and we all had a great time. Maxxis, FLY, and many other great companies were all there to hand out goodies all night!

I flew back down to Florida on Monday the 16th to get back to riding and training. I woke up Tuesday and drove from Cape Coral to Port St Lucie, where I am staying with the manager of the WMR off-road team. On Wednesday Ethan Jaudas and I met Charlie Mullins and Lucas Statum at Bithlo MX and rode some moto with him all day, then went to dinner with him and his wife that night. We stayed up around the Orlando area and rode with Charlie and Lucas again on Thursday at a narly woods place. We had a lot of fun riding with Charlie and he is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is hauling the mail this year as well, even more than usual! We drove back down to George’s house Thursday night so we could spend all day Friday prepping for the National Harescramble in South Carolina on the 21st.

Ethan and I drove up Saturday morning to SC to meet up with his dad and DQ at the track and get settled before heading to the hotel. We took it easy Saturday night and just hung around. On Sunday everybody showed up to the race and it looked like it was going to be a great day to see where I currently am and where I need to be for round one of GNCC. However, I started the race of by getting another horrible start and took off almost last. I caught up a lot on the first lap until I made a dumb mistake over a log and fell and dropped back a bunch of positions again. I came through the finish on the first lap around 22nd position and caught back up to 17th by lap three until a bike problem put me out of the race. I decided to pull it in and call it a day before we caused a lot of damage to the motor. The race obviously didn’t go as planned but I felt great on the bike and my set up seems to be spot on so we are making great progress.

Ethan and I drove back home to Florida Sunday night and DQ followed us back down so he could get my bike back going for this coming weekend. In the mean time, George was nice enough to lend me his bike and let me ride it for the week. I am planning on racing the FTR this weekend but there is still a chance I may show up at round one of the National Enduro series back in Sumpter, SC.

That is all for this month of January and this edition of “Where in the World is Squire.” I am having a great winter so far and it has been an awesome time down in Florida. I am looking forward to hitting as many races as I can and getting a bunch of time in on the bike. Thank you everyone for tuning in again, enjoy!
